Nothing in your tsconfig sets types.

TypeScript 6 changed what that means.

TypeScript 5.9.3 — loaded them all

AND THE BUILT-IN MODULES

WHAT THE COMPILER SAYS
src/index.ts(3,28): error TS2591: Cannot find name 'process'. Do you need to install type definitions for node? Try `npm i --save-dev @types/node` and then add 'node' to the types field in your tsconfig.
AND THE IMPORT WITH IT
✕import ... from "node:fs" those declarations live in @types/node too, and
nothing else puts them in the program
the one line back add "types": ["node"] to every tsconfig that needs the globals. ["*"] restores the old sweep, but only on 6.0 and up
TypeScript 5.9.3 · 6.0.3 · 7.0.2 side by side · @types/node 26.5.1 · the error above is captured from the demo's own run
